Yes. So the day I posted my blog about the Nubians in the Kibera of Kenya, my friend Kimanthi, who I also mentioned in that particular blog, accused me of being one of ‘that sort of media’ if you know what I mean? The kind of media like CNN, who are focused on painting the African image negatively to rest of the world. Those people will never post the positive things, will never talk about the income, the lives of the people, the event where and where, but are consistently bombarding the worlds with news reports about the Biafran in Nigeria, The Hunger in Libya, the War in Liberia, the Oil battles in Nigeria, the fire at so and so, the starving children on the streets of Accra, and the bombing in the middle east. Yeah. ‘That Sort of Thing’
My friend Kimanthi couldn’t understand why I had spent three nights at InterContinental Hotel, one of the most prestigious five-star Hotels in Nairobi and never written about it, but wrote about the Nairobi river and the slums of Kibera. It was the realization that hit me in the face.
I noticed that no, I hadn’t meant in my plans, to write about the negatives but also, the idea to write about the InterContinental also just escaped my mind at the time. So I emailed the Hotel’s really Hospitable staff and we agreed on a date, so I could go back, and take the pictures of the Hotel and so on. And this is what I have below.
The Hotel is Located in the ‘OtherPart of Town’ Ha-Ha. If you know what I mean. The side where you can walk peacefully, much as the Nairobi people walk at a relatively fast pace. But the atmosphere is tranquil. and on any day, I would jump at staying there. But its really expensive also so if you plan on visiting, I suggest you check out the Hotel’s website first.
